Team Arctic Crushes USXC Cross-Country Opener

At the first cross-country race of the 2012-2013 USXC season, aboard the all-new Sno Pro 600 ProCross and Sno Pro 500 race machines, Team Arctic racers delivered an overwhelmingly-dominant performance that rewrote the record books. When it was over, Team Green captured 16 of 20 classes via 14 individual winners at the Gerald Dyrdahl Memorial Pine Lake 200.

Leading the history-making assault was two-time cross-country Pro champion Ryan Simons of the Christian Bros. Racing (CBR) team, who won both the 100-mile Pro Stock and 100-mile Pro Open finals convincingly. Joining Simons on the podium of both finals were his Team Arctic/CBR teammates Brian Dick and newcomer Zach Herfindahl. Including the Pro classes, there were 13 podium sweeps by Team Arctic, making this one of the most successful racing weekends in modern history.

“We’ve enjoyed outstanding success in cross-country over the years but this reset the high mark for winning,” said Mike Kloety, Team Arctic Race Manager. “It shows what’s possible when you combine the outstanding efforts of our racers and crews with the speed and handling of our Sno Pro race sleds.”

Joining Simons as a two-time class winner at Pine Lake was Bryce Buchanan, who returned to his familiar place atop the Expert 85 classes aboard his Arctic Cat Sno Pro 500. Nearly nailing the big double, Erik Nymann went 1-2 in the two Sport 600 finals, while Jon Arneson raced a record number of laps en route to his first in Semi Pro Stock, third in Masters 40-plus and fourth in Expert 85.

“The improvements to the 2013 Sno Pro 600 in the ProCross chassis gave us an even greater handling and speed advantage on the fast lake course,” said Kloety. “Of the 14 individual class winners aboard Arctic Cat sleds, six of them were on the new Sno Pro 600.”

The next race on the USXC cross-country circuit is Jan. 5, 2013, in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Team Arctic Conquers Cross-Country, Snocross and Hillclimb

Twenty-Nine Victories in Warroad XC; Pro Open Victory at ERX National Snocross; and Six Wins at the RMSHA Hillclimb in Afton, Wyo.

Leaving nothing but table scraps for the competition, Team Arctic marched through last weekend claiming 29 class victories in two days of USCC cross-country, a huge win in Pro Open at the ISOC snocross national in Elk River, Minn., and six victories at the RMSHA hillclimb in Afton, Wyo.

The all-conquering cross-country performance unfolded in Warroad, Minn., during the final weekend of USCC competition during the 2012 season. With two separate events during the weekend, Team Arctic had double the opportunity to dominate.

The Arctic Cat/Christian Bros. Racing juggernaut continued their claim in Pro class competition, with Brian Dick and D.J. Ekre claiming Pro 600 and Pro Open on Saturday, followed by Ekre winning Pro 600 on Sunday. Ryan Simons was on the podium in all four events during the weekend to claim his second consecutive USCC Pro 600 Championship, while Ekre took the Open Class Championship.

In addition to conquering the pro classes, Team Arctic unleashed an all-class beating of historic proportions. Eight Team Arctic racers scored multiple class wins, while there were 19 different winners. And of the 29 total class victories during the weekend, 14 were full podium sweeps by Team Arctic.

“We’ve been highly-successful in USCC cross-country racing for many years, but the team’s performance in Warroad reached a new level,” said Mike Kloety, Team Arctic Race Manager. “I believe the word “dominate” gets used a little too loosely sometimes, but it’s the only way to describe winning 30 out of 39 total races. Arctic Cat is immensely proud of all our racers, crew and the USCC staff for a truly outstanding season of competition.”

While the cross-country team was conquering Warroad, Team Arctic’s Tucker Hibbert returned to the top of the ISOC Pro snocross podium with a win in Elk River, Minn. Hibbert led the strongest performance of the season at Elk River, with Team Arctic Pro’s taking five of the top-8 positions. Other Team Arctic winners in Elk River included Tyler Adams, Trent Wittwer, Ryley Bester, Ethan Aune and Evan Christian.

Team Arctic’s hillclimb contingent captured six class victories at the RMSHA event in Afton, Wyo. Proving the ability of the M8 HCR in the ProClimb chassis with wins in the big-inch classes were Kyle Tapio (with two wins), Nels Tapio and Trace Tupper. They were joined on the top step of the podium by Sid Archibald and David McClure.

Team Arctic’s Ryan Simons Wins USCC Pro Championship

In three different racing disciplines, during two days of fierce competition, Team Arctic racers climbed farther, raced faster and flew higher to claim an astonishing 33 class victories, including the coveted USCC Pro Championship. Even for a team so familiar with the winner’s circle, this was one March weekend that won’t soon be forgotten.

In the final two races of the USCC cross-country season, Team Arctic/Christian Bros. Racing teammates D.J. Ekre and Ryan Simons proved why they are among the fastest cross-country racers of a generation, with Ekre taking his third win of the season while Simons claimed the Pro High-Point Championship.

Their exploits were bolstered by the kind of dominance that has typified cross-country racing in recent years, with Team Arctic racers winning 21 separate classes during the two-race weekend in Warroad, Minn., including podium sweeps of the Pro 600, Semi Pro 600 and all 85-hp classes.

A similar story unfolded at the penultimate round of the ISOC National Snocross Series in Elko, Minn., where Team Arctic/Monster Energy’s Tucker Hibbert delivered another double-win weekend, taking both the Pro Stock and Pro Open classes to bolster his championship points lead heading into the final races of the season.

Factory Team Arctic’s dynamic-duo of Cody Thomsen and Kyle Pallin put on a veritable clinic in the Semi Pro classes at Elko. Thomsen took victory in the first final on Saturday, with Pallin taking second, then traded places with Pallin winning the Sunday final ahead of Thomsen. Like Hibbert, Thomsen appears locked-in to win his class championship next weekend in Lake Geneva, Wis.

At the David Sheppard Memorial Hillclimb in Lost Trail, Mont., Team Arctic’s high-mountain men and women notched eight class victories aboard their M Series machines, taking wins in the 600, 700, 800 and Open classes.

“Winning a total of 33 classes in the three premier race circuits during a single weekend of competition is a remarkable performance,” said Mike Kloety, Team Arctic Race Manager. “I’d go so far as calling it legendary.

“It was especially gratifying to see Ryan Simons claim his first season championship, taking the Pro 600 title in USCC. Winning a championship is the dream of all top racers, but it’s an accomplishment experienced by a select few. Ryan and his crew battled through injury to prove their strength and constancy, which is something we’re all proud of.”

Mid-Season Momentum Continues for Team Arctic

The wins keep coming for Team Arctic cross-country and snocross racers, with another dominant performance at the USCC cross-country race in Walker, Minn., and Pro win at the ISOC National snocross at the Pontiac, Mich., Silverdome.

D.J. Ekre was the man-of-the-weekend, winning both the Pro 600 and Pro Open class at the USCC race in Walker to notch his first victories of the season. Racing for the dominant Arctic Cat/Christian Bros. Racing team, Ekre’s victories, along with teammate Chad Kyllo’s win Semi Pro Improved, set in motion an unstoppable wave of winning for Team Arctic racers who claimed 15 of 20 class wins during the day.

Ryan Greening scored another win in Semi Pro 600 – his third of the season – while Jon Arneson topped the highly-competitive Expert 85 class for the first time. Proving the depth of the Team Arctic program and the strength of the Sno Pro 600 and Sno Pro 500 race sleds, 12 different racers stood atop the podium in Walker, with six podium sweeps.

“When one team wins 15 of 20 class finals, I call it a phenomenal performance,” said Team Arctic Race Manager, Mike Kloety. “Yet it was a bittersweet weekend for us, as we’re still grieving the death of USCC President Pat Mach, who guided the circuit into a premier venue for cross-country racing. One week after his passing, USCC crew provided a first-class event to honor Pat and the entire Mach family. I’m as proud of that as I am Team Arctic’s domination.”

Meanwhile, Team Arctic’s Tucker Hibbert delivered another scorching win in the Pro Stock class in Pontiac, where ISOC ran an abbreviated class program for the indoor event. Garth Kaufman notched his second ISOC podium in a row, with teammate Logan Christian just missing the box in fourth. Hibbert was on his way to another double-win before an uncharacteristic get-off in the Pro Open final shuffled him back to fourth.

Although bad luck prevented the usual podium-sweeping performance, Team Arctic motored out of Pontiac with the championship points lead in four of six classes.

The next race in the USCC circuit is Feb. 19 in Red Lake, Minn., while the next ISOC National is March 5-6 in Hayward, Wis.

Thirty-Two Win Weekend for Team Arctic

On Top in Eastern/Canadian Snocross and Western Hillclimbs

It’s the middle of the race season, and Team Arctic snocross and hillclimb racers delivered a 32-win weekend that makes the competition wish winter was over.  Leading the victory lap parade in snocross were Tucker Hibbert and Cody Thomsen, each winning a class at the ISOC Eastern National in Farmington, NY.

Hibbert’s win in Pro Open marked his 62nd career Pro class win, and overshadowed the troubles that derailed his efforts in Pro Stock, in which he finished fifth. Pro teammates Garth Kaufman, Logan Christian and Dan Ebert found additional speed in Farmington, with Kaufman taking a second in Pro Stock, while Christian and Ebert each notched a fourth place.

Factory Team Arctic standout Cody Thomsen continued his season-long onslaught of the Semi Pro class, winning one final, taking a second in the other and leaving New York with a commanding points lead.

While Team Arctic snocrossers were winning in Farmington, the hillclimb team set the high mark with 13 wins at the RMSHA season-opener in Bear Lake, Idaho.

It was a familiar family of names who once again proved the superiority of the M Series, as Chance Buckallew, Amy Zollinger, Kyle Tapio and Bryant Ropelato each won multiple events, including Kyle and Bryant’s King titles. They were joined in the winner’s circle by Nels Tapio, Todd Tupper, Taylor Siemers and Casey Morley, giving Arctic Cat the top spot in more than half of the class finals.

At the Soo International 500 enduro in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., Team Arctic’s Isaac Wolfgang was oh-so-close to notching his first victory, finishing in the runner-up position just five seconds out of first.

“This was one of those weekends where Team Arctic racers won all-over the North American map in all forms of competition,” said Mike Kloety, Race Manager. “While we didn’t win every time we hit the track, notching 32 wins tells the story of our racers, crews and snowmobiles, while highlighting the strength of our program.”

Arctic Cat Racers Dominate by Winning 15 of 18 Classes

Neither brutally-cold temperatures, record-breaking snow depth, nor the contagion of previous hard-luck could sway Brian Dick’s date with I-500 destiny. Piloting his Sno Pro 600 with unmatched speed and poise, Dick stamped his authority on the weather-shortened USCC Red Lake I-500 cross-country, leading a Team Arctic-sweep of the top-4 Pros and 15 of 18 class wins.

Dick set the fastest time on the first two (of three) days, ahead of his Arctic Cat/Christian Bros. Racing teammates Ryan Simons, Zach Pattyn and Cory Davis. Falling snow and 30 mph winds created near white-out conditions on the final day, forcing USCC officials to cancel the third leg. With a four-minute, 34-second lead over Simons, the reigning USCC Pro Champion claimed his first I-500 victory after a decade of near-misses.

“Brian has suffered multiple gut-wrenching losses in this race over the years,” said Team Arctic Race Manager, Mike Kloety. “To see him finally win brings great pride and satisfaction to his family, fans and even his fellow racers.”

Indeed, when officials announced they’d cancelled the third leg, a steady stream of racers waited to shake hands with Dick, an Arctic Cat engineer and one of the people instrumental in designing the Sno Pro race sled. First in line was his father, Paul, who has competed in more I-500 races than any other competitor (and who took fourth in this year’s event).

In addition to Dick’s wins in Pro 600 and Pro Open, Team Arctic racers won 13 other classes at the I-500. Ryan Greening turned in two blistering-fast times to win the Semi Pro Stock and Improved classes by nearly 14 minutes. Jolene Bute continues to set cross-country records, taking her sixth career I-500 win in the Women’s class.

Team Arctic racers continue to dominate the 85-hp classes, with Tyler Johnsrud leading an Arctic Cat-sweep of the top-13 in Expert 85, and Jordan Holm leading a Cat-sweep of the top-five finishers in Trophy 85.

And in the first-ever I-500 Vintage class, Joey Hallstrom won ahead of former Team Arctic legend (and two-time I-500 winner) Brian Nelson, with Joey Potucek taking third, all three aboard 1979 Arctic Cat el tigre Cross-Country Cats.

“This year’s I-500 will long be remembered as one of the most difficult,” said Kloety, “With cold temperatures, snow dust and brutally-rough conditions from the deep snow. To win 15 of 18 classes reflects the determination of our racers and crews, and the commitment we’ve made to support cross-country racing.”

The next race on the Team Arctic race calendar is the ESPN Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo., Jan. 30.


Team Arctic Storms Through Grafton USCC Opener

Arctic Cat Racers Win 12 of 18 Classes with 11 Podium Sweeps

A winter storm blew into Grafton, ND, prior to the start of the United States Cross-Country (USCC) season opener, leaving a rough, cold and rugged cross-country race for those competitors who braved closed roads to get there. And with Arctic Cat’s unmatched support of all classes, Team Arctic racers won 12 classes – sweeping all top-3 podium positions in 11 of them – and sent a powerful reminder which brand will dominate for the rest of the season.

“Arctic Cat supports cross-country racing because our racers are passionate about it, our company learns from it and our customers benefit from it,” said Team Arctic Race Manager, Mike Kloety. “Despite a storm that literally shut down travel in this region of the country, Grafton saw nearly 200 entries. And Team Arctic dominated by winning 12 of 18 classes.”

D.J. Ekre, Ryan Simons and Brian Dick served notice about who were the fastest pros of the weekend when they swept the Pro Open class early in the day; however, in the Pro 600 class each suffered the fickle fate of cross-country’s classic drama. Dick went out with a tweaked suspension component, Ekre battled multiple goggle changes due to fogging and Simons went from a 10-second lead to a 14-second deficit following a last lap crash.

A similar fate befell Chad Kyllo, Ryan Greening and Cole Nymann in the Semi Pro 600 final. After sweeping the top-3 positions in the Improved class early in the day, the trio suffered slush and ice build-up under their sleds’ hoods, slowing their speed considerably and preventing a second Semi Pro class sweep for the day.

Despite these setbacks, Team Arctic proved their overall dominance from top-to-bottom. Aboard his Sno Pro 500, Bryce Buchanan led a top-10 sweep of the Expert 85 class and a top-six sweep of Expert 85 Improved. Underlining the dominance of the Sno Pro 500, C.J. VandePutte led a top-eight sweep of Sport 85, Luke Perreault led a top-seven sweep of Trail and Jay Lura capped the top-six-sweep of Junior 10-13.

Ready to Win: Team Arctic Racers for 2011

The Top Racers and Teams in all Forms of Competition

With a powerful, refined cadre of 2011 race sleds on which they’ll ride,, a legendary crew of Team Arctic racers are primed for another victorious season of snocross, cross-country, hillclimb, oval and drag racing in 2010-2011. The stakes are high, and the winning bet is on these accomplished racers whose triumphant legacy is unmatched.

“We’ve put together what we believe is the best overall race program in the sport, comprised of the strongest racers, most experienced crews, top-level sponsors and a fleet of snowmobiles that proved to be the best last season, and that have been further improved for 2011,” said Mike Kloety, Team Arctic Race Manager. “I predict another record-breaking season.”

More than any other team in the sport, Arctic Cat is committed to supporting top-tier and grassroots racers, circuits and disciplines for 2011.

Snocross: More Championships on the Horizon

There is no denying the winning formula for the Team Arctic Snocross program which, for 2011, looks like a sure-bet for championship domination.

Perhaps the biggest news is Tucker Hibbert’s commitment to race the entire snocross season. The four-time and defending X Games champion and FIM World Snocross Champion won nine ISOC National finals last season aboard his Monster Energy Arctic Cat. He’s the hands-down favorite to add a couple high-point championships to his resume this season.

The Arctic Cat Factory Team will consist of second-year Pro Dan Ebert, who last season won the famed USCC I-500 cross-country and scored multiple podium finishes in snocross. He’ll be joined once again by Semi-Pro Cody Thomsen, who last season won several finals and finished second in points, and fellow Semi-Pro Kyle Pallin who also stood atop of the podium on multiple occasions last year. The factory team will once again be managed by Russ Ebert.

Once again, Christian Bros. Racing (CBR) will field the largest private team in the industry, and with an added emphasis on cross-country. Pro riders will include perennial podium finishers Garth Kauffman and Ryan Simons, now joined by last year’s Semi Pro points champion, Logan Christian, who has made the jump to Pro. Zach Pattyn returns again in the Pro class, as will Cory Davis when he recovers from an off-season injury. And Carly Davis will compete in the Pro Women’s class at select events.

The Sportech/Arctic Cat race team now includes Sweden’s top Pro, Johan Lidman, silver medalist in the FIM World Championships of snocross. He joins Semi-Pro Andrew Carlson for a potent combination in the top two classes.

Arctic Cat is concentrating more effort and expertise on the east coast for 2011, with Green Mountain Racing (Matt Pichner, Emil Otteson, Chris Ackerman and Cody Flach) and CMT Racing (Corin Todd, Ash Waskob and Jesse Bonaduce) carrying the Team Arctic banner.

All Terrain Cycle Racing is Team Arctic’s Canadian contingent, with Dustin Vandrie and Katejun Coonishish in the Pro class, Sean MaCauley and Shawn Elmhurst in Semi-Pro, Wakenda Peters in Pro Women, and Joe Peters in Junior.

Cross-Country: Comprehensive Support at all Levels

Last season Arctic Cat stamped their supremacy on the USCC cross-country circuit, with three different Pro class winners and complete domination of the Semi Pro and Sport classes.

Flying the Christian Bros. Racing banner will be defending Pro 600 Champion Brian Dick (who won three races last season), defending Pro Open champ D.J. Ekre, plus the entire CBR snocross crew.

Brothers MotorSports is back on green again this season, with Pro Ryan Huston, Ryan Greening in Semi Pro, and Coltan Vandeputte in the Sport 85 classes.

Joining them will be several dozen racers in all USCC classes.

Legendary Iron Dog champion Scott Davis is ready to team up with his son Cory to tackle Alaska’s famed cross-country event. They’ll be joined by Todd Palin/Eric Quam along with many other AC Teams in an attempt to notch Team Arctic’s 12th win out of 27 editions of the famed event.

Hillclimb: The Kings Remain the Same

Year-after-year, the fast, fearless crew of Team Arctic Hillclimb racers has proven all but unstoppable on the slopes of Snow King in Jackson and every venue of the RMSHA mountain circuit. Families like the Tapios, Zollingers, Tuppers, Frisbys, Archibaulds and Frees are joined by Buckallew, McClure and others for a mountain-topping tour de force aboard the highly refined M Series snowmobiles.

Drag, Oval, Enduro and Watercross

Last season Cadarette Racing’s Troy Dewald and Jeff Leuenberger put Arctic Cat atop the Soo 500 enduro for the first time in 42 years, breaking a hex that had jinxed the win on numerous previous occasions. It was a historic moment for the team and racers, and they’re back in 2011 to defend their historic win.

In oval race, Team Arctic is represented by the always-amazing, three-time World Champion P.J. Wanderscheid, as well as the emerging and youthful powerhouse, Hoglund Racing.

The World’s Best Race Snowmobile

Thief River Falls, Minn. – If there was any doubt about which racing snowmobile was the world’s best, Team Arctic racers piloting the 600 Sno Pro answered by winning the major snocross and cross country events and championships in 2010.

The Sno Pro 600 dominated Snocross as evidenced by Tucker Hibbert’s fourth-straight Gold Medal at Winter Xgames. Wanna talk World Domination? How about a clean Arctic Cat Sno Pro 600 sweep at the FIM Snocross World Championship in Sweden led by Hibbert, Lidman and Davis? And what about the Soo I-500? Cadarette Racing piloted their Sno Pro 600 to the checkered flag winning the most prestigious snowmobile enduro in the world – Arctic Cats first-ever win in 42 years!

The Sno Pro 600XC did plenty of house cleaning in the Cross Country arena as well. Dan Ebert’s overall victory capped an emotional and wildly successful USCC I-500 for Team Arctic that included 11 of 13 class wins. Brian Dick’s remarkable success in USCC highlighted a season in which Team Arctic racers won 14 of 18 class championships and numerous race victories. In addition to his Pro Championship title, Dick was named USCC Racer of the Year.

Team Arctic Race Manager, Mike Kloety states, “Our wide spread success with the Sno Pro has been phenomenal based on our Team Arctic race results.  But for 2011, that’s not good enough for Team Arctic Race engineers who work day and night to develop these high-performance race sleds. For 2011 Team Arctic racers are poised to extend the winning supremacy aboard Arctic Cats latest race tuned Sno Pro 600s with the following improvements:

600 SNO PRO CHASSIS

  • Black painted aluminum tunnel with new tunnel support braces as well as upper spar assembly gussets improve durability. 5052-H32 aluminum braces increases thickness from .080” thickness to .100”.
  • Both Snocross and Cross Country fuel tanks will be clear material with black vinyl cover – Previously black on 2010 models.
  • Bodywork side panels receive textured surface and slightly relocated hood pins to improve scratch-resistance and easier attach/detach.

ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL

  • SnoCross CDI has a new program for improved holeshots based on ignition timing and exhaust valve opening per exhaust pipe temperature
  • The VIP system allows fine tuning of race set-ups from day-to-day and race-to-race via more accurate data retrieval including the new for 2011 water temperature and throttle position sensor – additionally exhaust pipe temperature, track speed, driven shaft speed and tachometer are measured. (VIP system sold separately PART # 0620-371)
  • Exhaust Manifold has a new inlet tube and the exhaust pipe temperature probe fitting is revised for increased performance and durability.
  • Engine mount material improved to provide more resistance to degradation from gas and oil.

DRIVE SYSTEM

  • Brand new Snocross track accommodates a new drive sprocket change to for the 2.86” pitch Camoplast which is 2-lbs. lighter than the 2010 track. The new lug pattern was developed for improved holeshots and is based off past Attack 20 race tracks.
  • Cross Country track will use the 1.25” 2-ply Ripsaw with 2.52” pitch.

SUSPENSION

  • Rear suspension rails have been revised. The transfer control assembly (coupling blocks) has been moved forward in the rails for aggressive transfer adjustments. Racer will feel a noticeable difference in transfer control throughout the settings.
  • Larger diameter rear idler arm wheels coincide with the coupling block relocation in order to maintain proper track tension on the higher settings to ensure quicker coupling.
  • Rear arm Fox shock compression valving was improved to provide more control in slower g-out bumps (big whoops) or long duration bumps.  The rebound valving change was improved overall, but specifically shines in high speed chatter.
  • Cross Country front arm Fox shock has been recalibrated for improved ride control through high-speed sharp bumps.

Team Arctic Wins Four Snocross Championships

ISOC Semi Pro Championships Awarded to Thomsen and Christian at Lake Geneva

Team Arctic racers and crew put a wrap on the 2009-10 ISOC National snocross season at the Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale in Lake Geneva, Wis. And with it came a wrap on one class victory and four class championships, ending yet another winning season in National-level snocross.

The win came in the ultra-competitive Semi Pro Open final, where Factory Team rider Cody Thomsen held off Logan Christian for the victory, and for the season championship.

Christian wasn’t too upset, because he nailed his own Championship highpoint title in Semi Pro Stock #2 class. Both racers are headed to the Pro class next year, which leaves the door wide open for Factory Team Arctic racer Kyle Pallin to preside over the class next season. Pallin left Geneva with two second-place finishes and the runner-up spot in Semi Pro Stock #1 points, leaving little doubt about where he’ll stand next year.

Other notable performances: Class champions Britt Anderson and Les Anderson; Dan Ebert’s fourth in Pro Stock; Cory Davis’ fifth in Pro Open; Carly Davis’ second overall in Pro Women; Karl Christian’s third in Pro Plus 35; and Andrew Carlson’s second in Sport Stock.

“We had another excellent snocross season, culminating in the Semi Pro titles for Cody and Logan,” said Mike Kloety, Team Arctic Race Manager.

He added, “Looking back, we scored wins at all but one National and multiple wins at most events, confirming the dedication of our racers and teams, as well as the strength of our Sno Pro 600 race sled. This strong finish to the season will translate into winning momentum for next year.”
